I also like to tell them that designers are
like fine wine, we get so much better with age. And it’s
absolutely true. Maturity does indeed bring wisdom and interestingly,
speed
and simplicity too! A lifetime of experience
has given me unique insight into what makes people respond
and how pictures and words combined into a stunning design
can entice
and beguile even the most discerning customer. And
the best news is, the creative well never runs dry, so
each project
symbolises a doorway to a myriad of possibilities
that
will help a business grow and prosper.
There’s no
substitute for experience
This extensive experience means I now specialise in guiding
business owners and managers through the delicate process
of creating unique
positioning and brand management strategies to improve
relationships and increase turnover.
And when not managing
and creating, I spend time researching the latest trends
in branding and communication design.
Membership brings its
own rewards
I am a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors,
and currently serve on the Australian
Graphic Design Association (Queensland Branch)
committee, having previously held
the offices of AGDA Queensland President and Vice-President.
Service
to the design industry includes the organisation and
management of several groundbreaking Queensland
design conferences,
including
the 2000 AGDA Awards and Brand Management Conference,
the first conference on branding held in Australia.
Personal
passions
What designer isn’t a closet fine artist in disguise?
I love painting in oils but also dabble in pastel
and watercolours. Porcelain carving is another interest, along
with pottery
and
photography.
Writing is also a passion of mine, culminating
in two books on branding, one of which is a DIY
Guide to Branding especially
for
small business owners working with a limited budget.
On
a personal note, I am married to Douglas (38 years of wedded
bliss!), have two fabulously talented
children,
one gorgeous
grandchild, two fluffy cats and an overgrown bush
garden overrun by possums
and sulphur-crested cockatoos.
